Matilda Paulsson, accompanied by the pianist Bengt-Åke Lundin, is making her phonographic debut with Junge Liebe – Swedish romances on Caprice Records.

The CD comprises a series of high-Romantic romances to the accompaniment of Bengt-Åke Lundin active as a pianist in Sweden and abroad. Among the songs are Wilhelm Peterson-Berger’s Nietzsche and Ricarda Huch compositions, seldom heard nowadays. Emil Sjögren’s Sex sånger ur Julius Wolffs Tannhäuser and Wilhelm Stenhammar’s practically unknown, quite sensational songs to poems from Heinrich Heine’s famous Buch der Lieder. The song cycle Junge Liebe has given its name to the CD.

The Mezzo soprano Matilda Paulsson made a successful debut in the spring of 2008 at the Royal Opera in Stockholm in the fabulous role of Octavian in Richard Strauss’ opera Der Rosenkavalier. After that she has been pursuing her international career alongside her performances on the Swedish opera scenes. In 2007 already, the audience was acquainted with Matilda Paulsson both as Magda Goebbels and as Zarah in the premiere of Anders Nilsson’s Leander opera Zarah at Folkoperan, and as David in the Vadstena Academy production of Händel’s Saul and also as Amastre in Händel’s Xerxes, her debut at the Drottningholm Theatre.

Bengt-Åke Lundin, piano, made a sensational debut in 1989 when he played Tchaikovsky’s B minor Piano Concerto with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then he has been busy giving concerts in Sweden and abroad as a pianist and chamber musician. Apart from being one of Sweden’s foremost pianists, Bengt-Åke Lundin is one of the accompanists most in demand in Sweden.

This CD was produced with the support of the Anders Wall Foundation.
