The Swedish Radio Choir
visions and Non Thoughts
The Radio Choir conducted by Ragnar Bohlin and trombonist Christian Lindberg converge on Visions and Non Thoughts. Together they perform six pieces by Ned Rorem, Thomas Jennefelt, Bo Hansson, Anders Hillborg and Christian Lindberg.
The Radio Choir consists of 32 professional singers. Since Eric Ericson took over the choir in the 1950s, they have turned into one of the most prominent choirs in the world – a vocal universal instrument with the ability to produce the most delightful a capella sounds or to become an enormously powerful and elastic oratorio instrument and anything else in between. Each and every singer’s personal expression is given a place in the group. This makes for a sound that doesn’t exist anywhere else: the unique sound of the Swedish Radio Choir.
Along with their role as one of the world’s most outstanding choirs goes the absolute elite of choir leaders and musicians. On this particular recording they converge with the magnificent Swedish choir conductor Ragnar Bohlin, who has been conducting the San Fransisco Symphony Chorus since 2007 and the world famous trombonist Christian Lindberg – in this case both a soloist and a composer.
Together they will be performing the suggestive choral piece by the American composer and Pullizer prize winner Ned Rorem, In Time of Pestilence, Christian Lindberg’s Visions and Non Thoughts and Vid sista udden – both for trombone, recitation and mixed choir, Thomas Jennefelt’s Fallandet, Bo Hansson’s Lighten mine eyes and Anders Hillborg’s phonetic sound etude muo:aa:yiy::oum. This is first time that these compositions by Lindberg, Jennefelt and Hansson are released on CD.
The Swedish Radio Choir, Ragnar Bohlin and Christian Lindberg have all been featured earlier on Caprice recordings but this is the first time they meet on the same CD.
